Terms of Service

Last updated June 18, 2026  ·  The Paper Trail  ·  hello@thepapertrail.net

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of The Scoop by Paper Trail, a market intelligence service operated by The Paper Trail ("we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. Please read them carefully.

By creating an account or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not access or use the Service.
Section 01

Acceptance of Terms

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and The Paper Trail. By registering for an account, subscribing to the Service, or otherwise accessing or using the Service, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms and all policies incorporated by reference.

If you are accepting these Terms on behalf of an organization or other legal entity, you represent that you have the authority to bind that entity to these Terms, in which case "you" will refer to that entity.

Section 02

Service Description

The Scoop by Paper Trail is a subscription-based market intelligence platform designed for retail investors. The Service aggregates financial news from hundreds of sources, applies AI-driven signal analysis to surface actionable insights, and delivers curated market intelligence through a web interface and email digests.

The Service is provided for informational and educational purposes only. Nothing on the Service constitutes financial, investment, legal, tax, or other professional advice. You are solely responsible for your own investment decisions.

Not Financial Advice. The Scoop by Paper Trail is a news aggregation and signal analysis tool. Content generated by or through the Service — including AI-generated summaries, alerts, and signals — does not constitute investment recommendations or personalized financial advice. Always consult a qualified financial professional before making investment decisions.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Service at any time, with or without notice, and we will not be liable to you or any third party for any such modification, suspension, or discontinuation.

Section 03

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement. If you are under 18, you may not create an account or use the Service.

The Service is intended for users located in the United States. We make no representations that the Service is appropriate or available for use in other locations. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for compliance with local laws.

Section 04

Accounts & Registration

To access the Service, you must create an account by providing a valid email address and password. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update such information to keep it accurate, current, and complete.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to notify us immediately at hello@thepapertrail.net if you suspect any unauthorized use of your account or any other breach of security.

We reserve the right to disable any account at any time if, in our sole discretion, we believe you have violated these Terms or if your account has been compromised.

You may not share your account credentials with others or allow multiple individuals to access the Service through a single account. Each subscription is for individual use only.

Section 05

Subscription & Payment

Subscription Plans

Access to the Service requires a paid subscription. We currently offer a single subscription tier at $49 per year. Pricing is subject to change with reasonable advance notice to subscribers.

Payment Processing

All payments are processed securely through Stripe. By providing payment information, you authorize us to charge your payment method for the applicable subscription fees. Your payment information is transmitted directly to Stripe and is not stored on our servers. Stripe's use of your payment information is governed by their own privacy policy and terms of service.

Billing & Renewal

Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing period (annually) unless you cancel prior to the renewal date. You will receive a renewal reminder before your subscription renews. Continued use of the Service after renewal constitutes your acceptance of the renewed subscription.

Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time by logging into your account settings or by contacting us at hello@thepapertrail.net. Upon cancellation, your access to the Service will continue through the end of your current billing period. We do not provide prorated refunds for unused portions of a subscription period.

Refunds

All sales are final. We do not offer refunds except where required by applicable law. If you believe you are entitled to a refund for any reason, please contact us at hello@thepapertrail.net and we will review your request on a case-by-case basis.

Failed Payments

If a payment fails, we may suspend or terminate your access to the Service until payment is successfully processed. We will attempt to notify you of a failed payment via the email address associated with your account.

Taxes

Subscription fees do not include any applicable taxes, levies, or duties. You are responsible for all taxes applicable to your subscription in your jurisdiction.

Section 06

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to use the Service:

The Service and its original content (excluding content provided by third-party news sources), features, and functionality are and will remain the exclusive property of The Paper Trail and its licensors. Our trademarks and trade dress may not be used in connection with any product or service without the prior written consent of The Paper Trail.

Third-Party Content

The Service aggregates content from third-party news sources and financial data providers. Such third-party content is the intellectual property of its respective owners. The Paper Trail does not claim ownership of third-party content and aggregates it pursuant to applicable law including fair use doctrine and RSS feed licensing.

Your Content

If you submit any feedback, suggestions, or other communications to us ("Feedback"), you grant us a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, and incorporate such Feedback into the Service or any future products, without any obligation to compensate you.

License to Use the Service

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use. This license does not include any right to resell or make commercial use of the Service or its contents.

Section 08

Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with or links to third-party services and websites, including but not limited to: Anthropic (AI analysis), SendGrid (email delivery), Stripe (payment processing), Alpha Vantage (financial data), and various news publishers (content sources).

These third-party services have their own terms of service and privacy policies, which govern their use of your information. We are not responsible for the practices or content of any third-party service. By using the Service, you acknowledge that your use of integrated third-party services is subject to their respective terms.

We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or reliability of any third-party content aggregated through the Service. News headlines, summaries, and data are provided "as is" and may contain errors, omissions, or delays.

Section 09

Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR COURSE OF PERFORMANCE.

The Paper Trail does not warrant that:

  • The Service will function uninterrupted, secure, or available at any particular time or location
  • Any errors or defects will be corrected
  • The Service is free of viruses or other harmful components
  • The results of using the Service will meet your requirements
  • The accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any content, including AI-generated summaries, news headlines, financial data, or market signals
Investment Risk Disclaimer. Financial markets involve significant risk, including the possible loss of principal. Past performance is not indicative of future results. The content provided through the Service — including AI-generated signals, alerts, and summaries — is for informational purposes only and should not be construed as investment advice. You should conduct your own research and/or consult a licensed financial advisor before making any investment decisions.
Section 10

Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE PAPER TRAIL, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, LICENSORS, OR SERVICE PROVIDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM:

  • Your access to or use of, or inability to access or use, the Service
  • Any conduct or content of any third party on the Service
  • Any content obtained from the Service, including AI-generated analysis
  • Unauthorized access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content
  • Any investment decision made based on content from the Service

In no event shall The Paper Trail's total liability to you for all claims exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the claim.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages, so the above limitation may not apply to you.

Section 11

Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless The Paper Trail and its officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, licensors, service providers, successors, and assigns from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, expenses, or fees (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to:

  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your use of the Service, including but not limited to any investment decisions made based on Service content
  • Your violation of any third-party right, including any intellectual property right or privacy right
  • Any claim that content you submitted caused damage to a third party
Section 12

Termination

We may terminate or suspend your account and access to the Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason whatsoever, including without limitation if you breach these Terms.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service will cease immediately. If you wish to terminate your account, you may simply discontinue using the Service and contact us to request account deletion.

All provisions of these Terms which by their nature should survive termination shall survive termination, including, without limitation, ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, indemnity, and limitations of liability.

Section 13

Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Any dispute arising from or relating to the subject matter of these Terms shall be finally settled by binding arbitration in Columbus, Ohio, using the English language in accordance with the Arbitration Rules and Procedures of JAMS then in effect, by one commercial arbitrator with substantial experience in resolving intellectual property and commercial contract disputes. Judgment upon the award rendered by such arbitrator may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, each party shall have the right to institute an action in a court of proper jurisdiction for injunctive or other equitable relief pending a final decision by the arbitrator.

Any dispute resolution proceedings will be conducted only on an individual basis and not in a class, consolidated, or representative action. If for any reason a claim proceeds in court rather than in arbitration, you and The Paper Trail each waive any right to a jury trial.

Section 14

Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes to these Terms, we will notify you by email (to the address associated with your account) and/or by prominently posting a notice on the Service prior to the change becoming effective.

Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the modified Terms. If you do not agree to the modified Terms, you must stop using the Service and cancel your subscription.

We encourage you to review these Terms periodically to stay informed of any updates. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when these Terms were last revised.
